Follow these Authors to keep up with trends. You will also learn what resources they use to stay in the know.

The Richtopia Authors list is compiled using a number of metrics combining to produce rank order. ‘The Accountant’ Beat ‘Moana’ And ‘Wonder Woman’ To Become The Most Rented Movie Of 2017

Despite its unprecedented success at the box office last year, Wonder Woman‘s efforts on the homefront have paled in comparison to another superhero in the Warner Bros. family, THE ACCOUNTANT. The movie bested both Wonder Woman and Disney’s Moana as the most rented movie of 2017.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the MPAA’s recent decision to include home entertainment figures in its annual report revealed the film‘s stellar performance at the home box office last year. Specifically, the report indicates that “The Accountant topped the list of U.S. digital movie rentals” in 2017, thereby outpacing other high at-home performers like Moana and Wonder Woman. Commenting on the matter, MPAA Chairman and CEO Charles Rivkin said, “The strong and vibrant theatrical and home entertainment market is expanding on many fronts.”

Kevin Macdonald Signs To Helm ‘Guantanamo Diary’

Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland) is on board to direct the politically-charged Guantanamo Diary for Benedict Cumberbatch, Adam Ackland and their company SunnyMarch and ZeroGravity’s Mark Holder and Christine Holder.

Michael Bronner is scripting the project which follows the tribulations of 45 year-old Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a man who was a suspected terrorist and had been incarcerated at Guantanamo bay for 15 years without ever being charged with a crime or having the opportunity to defend himself in court. He was let out only last year, quietly and without media fanfare. Also producing is Lloyd Levin and Beatriz Levin.

Bronner is a former 60 Minutes producer who has covered the Guantanamo story extensively. He was previously involved with and provided expertise and research for Paul Greengrass’s United 93 and also the Tom Hanks-starring Captain Phillips.

Slahi is the son of a nomadic herder who was — over years — subjected to “enhanced interrogation” techniques that include everything but waterboarding. His memoir claims that includes having his ribs broken, being kept awake for days, being blindfolded and taken out to sea where he was told he would be executed and was made to drink sea water, and subjected to sexual humiliation involving female soldiers. Yet never charged with a crime.

Convergent Media has been funding development on the project.

Macdonald won an Oscar for his documentary feature One Day in September and his gritty drama about military dictator Idi Amin The Last King of Scotland won Forest Whitaker his Best Actor Oscar. Macdonald’s previous credits also includes Black Seawith Jude Law and How I Live Now with Saoirse Ronan.

Russo Brothers Find New AGBO Storytelling Front: Interactive Venture With Zero Gravity’s Darren

In launching their company AGBO while directing back-to-back The Avengers sequels, Joe and Anthony Russo have made it clear their venture is all about elevated storytelling. They’ve just added another platform beyond film and TV: interactive location-based entertainment. AGBO has made a deal to team with The Tension Experience to develop new immersive experiences, destinations and brand partnerships. In this new joint venture, AGBO will be joining as producers of the groundbreaking show and support the development and expansion of Tension to more cities.

The Tension Experience was hatched three years ago when Darren Lynn Bousman — the director of Saw II, III & IV and other fright fare — teamed with writer Clint Searsand producer Gordon Bijelonic to launch what they call “immersive theater,” these stationary destinations where patrons get the daylights scared out of them. The first planned project in the joint venture will be the creation of a permanent destination in Las Vegas, in tandem with a casino partner. They will turn it into a nightlife experience and believe this will be a step forward in the evolving medium of interactive entertainment which has been tried selectively with Virtual Reality exhibitions and “escape rooms.” This particular venture will be designed to be reactive to its audience’s individual choices and decisions, and incorporate technology to create a satisfying audience experience.

“We’re always searching for new and innovative ways to interpret narrative,” said Anthony and Joe Russo. “We’re beyond impressed by the wholly immersive experience that Tension has brought to all of their shows, and we look forward to helping them expand their reach.”

In the early days of The Tension Experiences, its architects designed it so that patrons become the stars of their own real-life, cinema-quality thrillers, helped by hundreds of actors and and visual effects. Bousman has devoted most of his energy the past few years honing the formula.

“As a consumer, I became passive,” he said. “I sit back and I watch while things happen around me. I wanted to feel more engaged. I needed something to wake me up and inspire me. Immersive theater did that. It forces the audience to be active. We want to create environments where the audiences are the stars… Their action unlocks the narrative.”

Said Bijelonic: “When we embarked on this journey our goal was to change and disrupt the traditional storytelling format. We wanted to give our audiences a true visceral experience incorporating all five Human Senses.”

Said Sears, who scripts the stuff: “This is the most fulfilling creative endeavor we could possibly be involved with. It’s unparalleled in its scope and possibilities. The team feels that their experience along with the unparalleled creative force of AGBO will help create the most exciting immersive collaboration in the world.”
